I am a French American mother dedicated to teaching both languages to her daughter and your children. I have a lifetime of dance and theatre experience, hold a B.A. in Communications: Visual Media and worked successfully in commercial, documentary film and television production for eight years. I subsequently completed Master Teacher child development permits in Creative Curriculum for Young Children and Collaboration with Families. I am currently pursuing an M.A. in Education: Curriculum & Instruction at Portland State University.

I believe in child-directed play-based curriculum with a strong emphasis on art, music, movement and project development. I encourage all forms of positive communication (predominantly English, French and beginner ASL) and use a variety of educational approaches in order to customize learning experiences for every child. I encourage children to document their learning, to use their imagination, to work with manipulatives, and to make choices. I believe in teaching self-help skills and encourage both radical self-reliance and resilience. I guide the children through social interactions and help them transition succesfully to elementary school.

Infant Toddler Caregiver: Karen

Karen Weitz is a Portland native who spent time living in Haiti. She is fluent in both Haitian Creole and French. She received her BA in French from BYU. She has worked previously as a Case Manager in a Refugee Office as well as a Licensed Massage Therapist. She began to work with children while in Haiti massaging children in orphanages and teaching English to children in the kindergarten Petit Monde. Since that time, she has worked as the Instructor at Mon Ecole, the French Immersion Program at Fulton Park, as well as the Children's Music Minister and in the Nursery in her church. She is the happy mother of Claire.

PEDAGOGIE:

Nos objectifs essentiels sont la socialisation, la mise en place du language, du nombre et du geste graphique.

Nos programmes sont organisés autour de cinq domaines fondamentaux :

• Le language au coeur des apprentissages (premiers apprentissages du language: languages d'action, d'évocation et de communication, premières expériences de l'écriture par des activités graphiques, découverte du principe d'alphabet...).
• Vivre ensemble (échanger et communiquer avec les camarades et les adultes, participer aux activités du groupe...).
• Agir et s'exprimer avec son corps (activités physiques sous forme de jeux, language du corps, articulation avec d'autres activités).
• Découvrir le monde (découvertes sensorielles, sensibilisation aux problèmes d'hygiène, observation du monde vivant, approche des concepts d'espace et de temps, des quantités et des nombres...).
• La sensibilité, l'imagination, la création (activités visuelles, dessin, activités vocales, jouer avec l'image et la voix, activité musicales avec des instruments simples : triangle, rond, carré...).
